Anita Bains

Anita Bains is an educator, consultant, and a licensed, certified psychotherapist who has practiced and taught for 18 years. She worked as an RN in hospitals in the US and Canada. Upon her return to the US she worked at the University of Washington Hospital in Seattle and the National Institutes of Health before entering the University of Maryland at Baltimore where she received her M.S., specializing in psychiatric nursing.

She taught at local colleges and universities including Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. She is Past President of the Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses in Maryland and served as a Board member on the Pro Bono Counseling Project of Central MD; she presented “Change Your Thoughts Change Your Life” in Baltimore, MD with Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. author of The Biology of Belief.

In 1992 Anita began studying with experts in the emerging field of energy psychology and successfully integrates these new concepts and practices in her work with individuals and groups. In the early 1990’s many innovative mental health professionals were developing new approaches to psychotherapy. Current research supports the inseparable relationship of the mind, body, and spirit. The body as well as the mind holds the memory of trauma and stress. When the spirit is broken the body and mind suffer.

She teaches how to develop personal and professional effectiveness by clearing emotional, thinking and behavioral blocks. These integrative practices are successfully incorporated into her work to help others live the life they choose rather than the one created from disempowering beliefs and habits. She has presented at national nursing conferences on mental health issues and provides workshops to a wide variety of professional and community groups.

Anita is a participating researcher in a national study of veterans and the effect of Emotional Freedom Technique on Combat Stress symptoms. It is sponsored by Soul Medicine Institute. For more information go to:  www.stressproject.org./multicitystudy.html
